Madrid-Barajas Airport (Spain)

Madrid-Barajas Airport (Spain)

As the largest airport in Spain, the Madrid-Barajas airport receives more than 40 million air passengers every year and is thus Europe’s most important centre of travel after South America and also the hub of the Spanish Air Force. In 2006, Barajas airport in Madrid received the renowned British Stirling Prize for its architecture.
Spain’s capital city’s airport was chosen because of the intricacy of its colourful, 1.2 kilometres long terminal 4 building. This design places high architectural demands on the air conditioning and ventilation system. The objective was to create a pleasant atmosphere for visits to the airport by means of a low-turbulence, draught-free air supply.

In the Terminal 4 building, the goal is for air passengers to feel safe and comfortable. For this reason, the top priority was comfort, air quality and safety.
In line with the various specific requirements in an airport, TROX installed its air conditioning and ventilation components and systems in nearly all sections of the airport.

The displacement flow diffusers specially designed for Madrid airport were installed in terminal 4. Displacement flow diffusers prevent air turbulences and draughts. At sources of heat such as people and PCs, the air rises so that warmth and used air is sent to the ceiling. The fresh air quality in the terminal is thus particularly high, with the temperature being maintained at a comfortable level. Furthermore, along with the displacement flow diffusers, TROX also installed fire dampers, attenuators and flow volume controllers.
